“Keeping Taft Beautiful”
The Taft Rotary Club president Chris McGehee and Jasmeet Bain organized the community cleanup in order to “Keep Taft Beautiful.” Approximately 60 people participated and most of the students were from AVID and Oil tech, but there were also others as well. The plan was to clean up all the trash and litter along the streets and alleys, as well clear weeds from sidewalks. They cleaned the streets between Kern Street to San Emidio, and between 3rd and 8th street.
The cleanup was, “very successful, all of us spending spending about 3.5 hours working in the nice weather and then celebrating our success with food and drinks at the Oil Worker Monument,” said Josh Bryant. Ted Pendergrass and the Oil Tech Academy is hoping to make this event a big event occurring three times per year. The event was super beneficial to the community and it wouldn’t of happened without all the hard work that students, teachers, and the Taft Rotary Club put into it. Whether you’re trying to earn community service for a certain class or you’re just trying to help your community, any help would greatly appreciated in the years to come.
