Kevin Varga is a special education teacher at Taft High and started this past fall. He grew up in Chicago and now lives in Bakersfield but commutes to Taft every day to teach students. Before Varga started to teach at Taft High, he taught at Richardson Center for 10 years and taught four years in the Panama-Buena Vista District. Combined, he has taught 15 years in the education field.

Varga also subbed at Taft Primary for half a year to see if he would enjoy teaching special education. A big change happened when he arrived to Taft High because he has only taught preschool special education, but when he started to teach the high schoolers, he said “I love teaching my class, they are very respectful, fun, and so much better than I expected.” Varga’s favorite subject in high school was English, which led him to get his English degree at Cal State Bakersfield, and he also got his special education credential at National State University. Varga enjoys being a teacher at Taft High. He says, “Teachers and students are so supportive and so nice, they smile at me in the hallways and I would never expect that in Bakersfield. I also love how there is so much positivity all over the campus–the posters all over the walls and even on peoples faces!”
