Taft student-athlete gets recognized

It’s pretty impressive when you are a three-sport varsity athlete and can keep a 4.2 GPA, yes, you read it correctly. Jackson Van Roekel is a starting quarterback, a basketball player, and a pitcher for the Miami Marlins scout team based in Fresno and for the varsity Wildcats baseball team. Van Roekel was an all-league baseball player his sophomore and junior seasons, runner-up league MVP and all-area honorable mention his junior year. Van Roekel was recognized by Kern County’s Hometown Sports as the Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the second week of the football season. “It felt satisfying because I put a lot of dedication into school and I got recognition for that hard work; it gave me the motivation to keep focused in the classroom.” Jackson has high hopes to continue his baseball career to the next level; he will go to college wherever baseball takes him and will study math.
