The Houchin Blood Bank came to Taft High once again on March 2nd, 2018. The Human Element class helped coordinate the blood drive by scheduling the student participants and encouraging participation prior to the event. Several students of each class participated in donating blood. For every one donation, approximately 3 lives could be saved. Approximately 150 lives will be saved with these participant’s donations.

Fifty-two of the fifty-eight students that signed up were able to donate blood. It was a successful day of giving and caring at Taft High. Before students were able to donate blood, they were handed a questionnaire to fill out, and they were asked if they had eaten a decent meal and had plenty of fluids. For the students who hadn’t eaten anything or very much, they were given water bottles and sandwiches before they could donate.

A senior, MaKenna Kirby, donated blood and she said, “It always feels good to help out the community, especially for the Seniors that are in Government right now who can get two hours of community service for their donation.”
