Taft High Senior Brings the Community Together
The night before Halloween proved to be very exciting as children of all ages dressed up in their Halloween costumes to come together for a fun night of “Trunk or Treat” at the Rec. It kicked off with an egg hunt followed by a walk around the car lot to collect candy from decorated vehicles, and finally a costume contest for all ages. Each car featured a crafty, festive theme and even Taft High students made an appearance from a variety of clubs and organizations, such as: Drama Club, Avid, Oil Tech, and Human Element.
The event was created and put on by Taft High senior, Sierra Pilgrim, for her Oil Tech Senior Project. She wanted to provide a safe environment for children and expected only about 200 kids to show up, but 1000 was the outcome. When asked what her favorite part was, she commented, “Seeing all the little kids dressed up and happy to be there.” It was a fulfilling experience that increased her confidence not to be afraid of reaching high. The hardest part was to promote the event and get people to come out and decorate. Her biggest help during this was Stephanie House and her mother, Tessa Pilgrim. Sierra plans on doing Trunk or Treat again for the next couple of years.
