Peter Pan (Dawson Lopez) and Captain Hook (Eulysses Urrea) fight with swords during the halftime show.

The Taft High School Band, along with the members of Color Guard, will be attending a competition in 2 weeks against other schools in Kern County and Simi Valley. They’ve practiced 10 hours a week in preparation for the competition, but it takes four months to assemble and polish their routines and solos. The captain of Taft High Color Guard, Jenna Yarbrough, is one of many eager performers who aspire to win various titles. “Band is a very personal experience. You get close to every member,” said the four-year band member, now Color Guard Captain. “Getting ready for these annual competitions might be challenging, but the hard work always pays off.” Soloists for the upcoming event include Gloria Gamez, piccolo player who has been in band since the sixth grade, and Rickey Posey, one of the band’s tuba players.

The Color Guard performs with the Taft High Band to put on a show based on Walt Disney’s Peter Pan at each football game and for competitions. For the first football game of the season, the band performed a halftime show consisting of two routines based on the Lost Boys from Walt Disney’s Peter Pan.
