Taft High’s varsity and JV team beat Shafter

Taft High’s varsity and JV team played in a heat delayed match on Thursday, September 5. Both of their matches moved back to 6:00 pm.  

In the varsity match, all 9 players played competitive matches both in singles and doubles.

Singles:

#1 Arelie Paz defeated Puente 6-0,6-1. 

#2 Valerie Munoz defeated Gil 6-2,6-1. 

#3 Jessica De La Cruz lost to Camacho 6-7,4-6.

 #4 Jeidy Perez defeated Galindo 7-6,6-1. 

#5 Cindy Perez defeated Elholm 6-4,6-1. 

#6 Ivonne Gutierrez defeated Roldan 7-5,6-3.

Doubles: 

#1  Paz and Munoz defeated Puente and Gil 6-3,6-1. 

#2 Cindy Perez and Gabriela Aguilar defeated Roldan and Mejin 8-1.

#3 Kayleigh Pence and Anna Solorzano defeated Garcia and Morris 6-1,6-1. 

The Taft JV girls also pulled through with a win over Shafter during their home game, September 5th. In the JV match, 4 players accounted for all of 6 of Taft’s victories. 

Cristal Martinez-Munoz, Callie White-Patterson, Alyn Paz, and Natalie Rubio won their singles and doubles matches. 

In doubles:

 Cristal Martinez-Munoz and Callie White-Patterson won at #1.

 Alyn Paz and Natalie Rubio won at  #2. 

Next week, Taft has a bye on Tuesday, September 10, and the varsity team plays at McFarland on Thursday, September 12. McFarland doesn’t field a JV so Taft will not play until Friday, September 20-21, when they play in a two-day tournament.
