Members Mary Alice Finn, James Hooker, Monica Toro, Sandy Mittelsteadt, Eric Gonzales, Sara Burrell, Stacey Stansberry, Leigh Golling, and Patti Moon gathered in Conference Room #1 for the November meeting.

The second School Site Council meeting was held on Wednesday, November 29. The main topic of the meeting was the budget. Mary Alice Finn started off by stating, “The LCAP has not changed since the last meeting.” Taft High is in a 3.4 million dollar spending deficit. This was confirmed when Finn said, “We are spending 3.4 million dollars more than we should.” Finn also confirmed that the deficit will affect students. Finn said, “To say kids will not be affected is not true, kids will be affected.”

Taft High is also looking into a new cell phone policy. The new cell phone policy will will use color coded cards resembling stoplights. Ms. Toro added to this by saying, “It’s not our goal to confiscate cell phones.” Toro also added, “I would love to roll this out to parents, so they know what’s going on.” As of right now, they are thinking of rolling the new policy out after Christmas break. Toro’s last remark on the issue was, “All anybody wants is a good educational setting.”

Another main point is that from now on the School Site Council will have a representative of DLAC. Finn said, “A member of DLAC is supposed to be to sit at Student Site Council.” The School Site Council meetings are open to the public, and can be a good source of information for those who want to attend. The next tentative meeting date is set for February 7th, 2018.
