Taft High’s varsity volleyball girls are starting the season off to a great start. After playing Chavez, North, Foothill, and Delano, our Varsity Wildcats came home with the gold from the two-day South High Tournament on August 18th, 2017. Working as a team and working on positions, the girls were able to support and assist each other during this tournament.

The Lady Cats have had one home game against Mira Monte and beat the lions in 3-0 sets. The first game was a breeze as our wildcat girls dominated with a score of 25-13. Senior hitters Hunter Everson and Sarah Lopez were fearless and determined to demolish the Lions during this set. With the second game ending 25-15, Varsity never let the Lions get close to winning and continued to play hard all throughout the match. Students and parents of Taft High cheered volleyball on throughout the entire tournament and, in return, were able to watch the girls show their true talents. In the end, the team won the last set with another amazing score of 25-15. The team, taken over by excitement, celebrated their victorious game with their head coach Adena Furman.

On a related note, the annual ASB 3 on 3 tournament is approaching, so if you’re interested in this event you can sign up in the quad or contact Mrs. April Connors by email, in room 233 or in the ‘Cat Cave during 4th period. Staff members are also invited to play. All games will be played in the gym at lunch time, and players will be able to create their own team and team name. Get out there and play Wildcats!
