Wildcat golfers encounter their first loss

March 14 was a tough day for the Wildcat golfers at the Delano Golf Course. The Wildcats lost to the Shafter Generals by one stroke. After all scorecards were turned in, the Wildcats gathered to take a group photo. They then overheard Coach Goodwin say, “We lost by one stroke,” and were devastated. They talked about how it could have happened, like any losing team would have. Dawson Lopez said, “The match today did not play in our favor as a team. I also didn’t play my best; I struggled a lot getting onto the greens from a short distance. Something I could improve on is, honestly, staying in the right mindset. I got a little frustrated today, which threw my game off, and I also need to work some more of just swinging smooth.”

The lineup was a little different this week with junior, Van Reimers, and seniors, Michael Van Zee and Julian Johnson taking the last three spots. Reimers said, “It was a pretty fun experience; there’s a lot of things I need to learn, but it was great to head out there. I had low expectations, but I did better than I thought I would.” Something that Van Zee could have improved on was, “Making less shots and have more distance,” he said.
