On Monday, the Taft High boys varsity tennis team played Shafter in a makeup match from a rain-out on February 21. Taft won all 6 singles matches – #6 singles was a forfeit win for Taft, with Shafter bringing only 5 players.  Shafter also forfeited #3 doubles.

Jordan Miranda, Bryson Ginn, and Luis Moncoda all won easily at #3, 4,and 5 singles.  Number 1 for Taft, Brian Rivera, lost the first set 6-1. He came back and won the second set 6-1, and then won the tiebreaker 10-1.

Number 2 for Taft, Tyler Nyguen, won the first set 6-2, lost the second set 4-6, and then won the tiebreaker 10-7. Both Rivera and Nyguen showed a lot of heart to win the tiebreakers.

In doubles, Bryson Ginn and German Mejia played #1 doubles. They won an 8-5 proset.  Ginn and Mejia led Shafter’s number one team, leading 7-0, and they played outstanding tennis.  Shafter’s team “picked it up”, and won 5 games in a row. Ginn closed out the match by serving 3 aces, making the final score 8-5.

Taft is 4-0 on the season, and 3-0 in the SSL.  They close out this week with two away matches at Chavez and Wasco.
