Three cheers for the three SSL champions
For the first time in 29 years, the Taft Union High Schools varsity boys basketball team has won League. On Monday, Taft hosted the Wasco Tigers at home where the Freshman team won 33-20, giving them first place in their league. JV lost to Wasco 60-46 but still won first in league due to their dominant season. In order for Taft to tie for first place with Cesar Chavez, they would have to beat Wasco and Arvin the next game. The varsity boys came out with intensity that was fueled by their large crowd due to it being Senior Night. The Wildcats put the pedal to the metal gaining the upper hand on the Tigers. They ended up winning this game with an impressive score of 61-38.
The next day, on Feb. 5, Taft varsity boys needed to beat Arvin to win League. Both of the lower levels won their games with the Freshman and JV teams winning in a dominant performance. JV ended their game with a score of 57-33. Varsity came into the game determined to write their name in history. They did just that by beating the Arvin Bears by a landslide 32 points, winning 75-43.
The TUHS varsity boys basketball team accomplished what hasn’t happened in nearly 30 years. This is also the only time all three teams have won SSL simultaneously. This successful season will be remembered by this team and school forever.
