The girls played the South Sequoia League Championship at North Kern on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and placed first. Almost everyone improved their scores from the last match at North Kern, which is what coaches hoped for, so they could qualify as a team to move on to the Valley championships. To qualify for area, the team had to shoot 525, they were off by 40 strokes. Macayla Wells was the only Wildcat to qualify as an individual. She will be playing at the division one area championship next Monday at North Kern Golf Course. “Whatever happens in the post-season, we’ve been lucky to have had the chance to work with an athlete of Macayla’s caliber, and look forward to two more years of fun on the golf course,” said Coach Cowan.

After this season, the team will be losing four players: Jadynn Rosenberger, Isabella Martinez, Aylinne Narvaez, and Laurel Wheeler. Rosenberger, Martinez, and Narvaez plan on playing golf for Taft College after they graduate. It was an emotional night for the seniors because it was their last golf match, team bonding experience, and their very last van ride with the team. “It doesn’t really hit you until someone brings it up, especially on the way home. The team made me cry so many times; you feel like the season will continue on, but it’s not and you have to make the best of it. This has been my favorite team by far. I never thought I’d be as close to them as I am now,” said Martinez.

Scores were as follows:

Macayla Wells 93

Tayler Portenga 107

Jadynn Rosenberger 112

Isabella Martinez 120

Briley Wheeler 133

Alex Cannon 138
