Briley Wheeler analyzes her line before she putts. Analyzing your line helps a tremendous amount, especially when the greens are uneven.

The girls’ golf team played their first 18-hole match Sept. 24 at River Island Country Club, a very challenging course that only half of the girls have played. With many hazards, water to hit over, narrow fairways, and bunkers on each side, everyone was very nervous to play such a difficult course. The girls played in groups of four, two girls from Taft and two girls from another school, and played best ball. Best ball, not to be confused by scramble, is played by two golfers playing their own ball throughout the hole and taking the best score. Wildcats placed 9th, a very big gap from when they placed 1st last year because Taft is a division two school competing against many division one schools.

Scores for the Taft’s girls were as follows:

Macayla Wells and Jadynn Rosenberger – 92

Isabella Martinez and Briley Wheeler – 115

Tayler Portenga and Alex Cannon – 119
