Chad Berry breaks away for his first touchdown of the evening.

It looks like the JV Wildcats are taking the league by storm this year, finishing with a 1-5 league record last season. This year the Wildcats are already 2-0.

Friday evening wasn’t much of a challenge for Taft, as they beat Shafter 42-7. To start the game off on the opening drive, Garrett Jeffries completed a touchdown pass to Corbin Yaws to take an early 7-0 lead. After missing too many tackles, Joseph Montgomery of Shafter was able to run 71 yards for a touchdown.

Jackson Berry was able to put the ‘Cats in scoring position where Garrett Jeffries found Topher Downey for a touchdown to make the score 14-7. Jackson Berry managed to run in a 14-yard touchdown on fourth-and-5 to make the Wildcats lead 21-7. The Wildcats ended the first half leading the Shafter Generals 35-7.

As the Taft defense forced the Generals to punt the ball away,  Chad Berry took the hand off up the middle, where he went 85 yards for a touchdown with 7:18 left in the 3rd quarter.

Shafter’s offensive drive was cut short as a pass was intercepted by Christopher Downey. Shafter was unable to put any more points up as the Wildcats end the ball game with a score of 42-7.
