The 2018 Swim and Dive season has come to an end. The SSL diving championship took place May 4th at the Aquatic Center in Bakersfield. The meet included several high schools in Kern County and three of Taft High’s divers represented TUHS. These three included Regan Barnachia, Julia Sanchez, and Kaden Hielscher. Varsity divers were to complete eleven dives, all of which would represent the five categories. End results were as follows: Regan Barnachia in first, Julia Sanchez in second, and Kaden Hielscher with a disqualification for failing two of his dives.

The following day, swimmers were up bright and early in order to head up to Bakersfield College. Twenty-one schools from all different leagues were invited to participate for the league championships. Out of the 21 schools, TUHS girls took 10th place and boys took 11th. This included points won from diving.

Making Valley times were swimmers Jaxton Dowhy, Julie Heimiller, Brooke Ashmore, Cherise Strong, Jack Layton, Alex Toro, Presley Golling, Ryan Hickernell, Seth Talnentez, and Andrew Parker. Diver Kaleb Hillan also made a score that would qualify him for diving at Valley, but would not be able to participate due to a head injury. For day two of Valley, the boys 400 freestyle relay made consideration for taking 17th place and Presley Golling was able to participate in the 200 freestyle swim.
