Sophomore, Corbin Yaws, throws a wicked curve ball to strike the batter out.

Taft played Shafter and Wasco the days of April 24 and April 26. Unfortunately, the Wildcats lost to Wasco by a score of 13-4 on the 24th. Even with 3 successful RBIs by Van Roekel and Hammons, 8 base-on balls, 1 stolen base, and 5 stolen bases on the pitch, the Wildcats couldn’t seem to pull together a clean win against their opponent.

The boys played the Shafter Generals the next day and pulled together a win by a score of 12-6. They managed to obtain 10 RBI’s during this game, 7 base-on Balls, and they even had 13 stolen bases, and 2 earned runs! Van Roekel threw 74 pitches, Kyler Miles threw 48, and Skylar Self threw 14, making the total number of pitches thrown equal 136. This was an overall successful game for the Wildcats against the Generals.

On May 1st, the Taft varsity baseball team lost Tuesday’s home game against Chavez by a score of 5-2. Unluckily, this was the Wildcats’ senior night and last home game. Some of the senior boys were a little emotional to play in their last high school home game, while others were excited to finish the season and look forward to playing college ball, if they choose to pursue baseball, as some said in their short senior speeches. Although they lost to Chavez, some were bummed, but most of the team encouraged each other to play their best for this game and to look forward to their next game the coming Thursday, for it was next to their last game together. It wasn’t the end just yet.

For the boys’ game on May 3rd, they, sadly, lost to the Arvin Bears. The final score was 4-9. Even though they had another away game to look forward to, the boys wanted to take home a win for one of their last couple of games together. Van Roekel acquired one RBI, one stolen base, and one base on thrown balls, along with Kyler Miles, for their team. The team had a total of 25 chances and 17 putouts. Despite the loss against Arvin, the Wildcats played decently and managed some great plays and smart moves.

May 10th, the Wildcats’ last game of the season, the boys took an unlucky loss against Kennedy. It was a great and fun overall season for the baseball team and, although they are sad, they played their best this game, and are still content with the season coming to an end. Like usual, the boys gained RBIs and base-on balls and other great plays even though they did not win the game. It was such a fun, successful, great season for the boys, and those who will return next year are excited to play again.
