Taft High’s varsity boys tennis team shellacked the Cesar Chavez Titans, 9-0, Thursday, April 5 in a decidedly one-sided affair. In games it was 108-13.

Chavez did not field a JV team.

Varsity No. 1 Enrique Reyes was the first one off the court with a quick shut out of Christian Davis, 6-0, 6-0. In the closest match of the day, Rodolfo Magana beat Lionel Agninaldo, 6-1, 6-3. Sawyer Maier shut out Felipe Alvarez, 6-0, 6-0. Tyler Nguyen beat Christian Becera, 6-1, 6-0. Brian Rivera skunked Richard Espitia, 6-0, 6-0. And, Jose Ramirez beat Jose Cibrian, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Taft coach Jim Carnal sat his top two players and the matches were a little closer. Maier and Nguyen beat Davis and Alvarez, 6-2, 6-0. Taft’s Nos. 6 and 7 players, Ramirez and Bryson Ginn, beat Chavez’s Nos. 2 and 4 players, Aginaldo and Becerra, 6-0, 6-2. Jose Osornio and Antonio Guzman beat Brenden Gutierrez and Ulises Calles, 6-2, 6-1.

Taft improved to 12-6 overall; 5-2 in the South Sequoia League.

Chavez dropped to 4-6 overall; 4-4 in the SSL.
