On March 21, the boys’ golf team played a non-league game against Highland. The team played hard that day and tried to get through the holes quickly before it started raining. They even had enough time to play some of the back 9 holes. Dawson Lopez and Clayson Sorenson were in the top group. There were a few more groups behind them who also had Highland players in them, and then the last group consisted of only Taft High boys’ golf players.

This match had it’s ups and its downs for the team. Each player handles the frustration that comes along with golf differently. Some players try to remain positive like Dawson Lopez, and some throw their golf clubs down and try to hijack a nearby golf cart like Korbin Hillan. The coaches are always encouraging their players to represent the school with good sportsmanship and a good attitude, as well as to play quickly because no one likes a slow golf match.

By the end of the match, the coaches were unable to find out who won because one of the players was unaware that he was supposed to do the scorecard and did not count his or his teammates’ scores. Although the match didn’t go as planned, the team was still able to gain a lot more experience, and learn the importance of filling out scorecards. Hopefully the boys will take a lesson from this tournament and continue improving their golf skills.
