Taft Shuts Out Arvin

Taft High’s varsity boys tennis team shut out the Arvin Bears, 9-0, at home Tuesday.
The JV match at Arvin was rained out and will be rescheduled.
Varsity No. 1 Enrique Reyes was the first one off the court with a shut out of Rodrigo Altamirano, 6-0, 6-0. Sawyer Maier beat Dylan Mendoza, 6-1, 6-2. Rodolfo Magana got past Julian Alias, 6-4, 6-2. Tyler Nguyen beat German Galvez, 6-2, 6-2. Brian Rivera beat Brian Marquez, 6-2, 6-0. And, Jose Osornio, making his varsity singles debut, outlasted Carlos Rubalcava, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 10-8.
With the game won, Taft coach Jim Carnal sat his top three players. At No. 1 doubles, Nguyen and Rivera beat Altamirano and Galvez, 6-2, 6-3. Jose Ramirez and Bryson Ginn beat Marquez and Luis Delgadillo, 6-0, 6-3. And, Antonio Guzman and Fernando Campos beat Jose Gomez and Abelardo Penaloza, 6-0, 6-4.
Taft improved to 5-1 overall; 3-1 in the South Sequoia League.
Arvin dropped to 4-4 overall; 2-2 in the SSL.
