The last few days of February, as well as the beginning of March, the swim and dive teams were busy at work with an away meet against Lindsay.  The swim and dive teams also competed in the Highland meet. Swimmers were excited to be traveling and experiencing the new pool at Lindsay. Senior, David Rogers stated, “Swimming at Lindsay was exhilarating because it was our first away game. It was our first time as a team to actually bond. It made us stronger as a whole. I don’t think we had it exactly in the bag, as it was a different pool set up, so I believe we were all a little nervous. Overall, it’s an experience that we will never forget.”

Thursday, March 1st, girls triumphed against Highland and boys were only a few points behind, but lacked enough for a win. The meet was rushed and events such as the girls and boys 500-yard freestyle swim and the 4×100 freestyle relays were combined due to fear of the gusty winds and the threat of lightning. Divers especially felt fear of the weather as it put them off balance and even went as far as leading to a diver in hitting the board and being sent away for fear of a concussion. Freshman, Kaden Hielscher said, “Diving against Highland in the wind was cold, but I didn’t let it show or affect me.”

Friday, swimmers came together for a meeting before practice and discussed the previous days’ meets and agreed that due to poor health and the lack of Coach Dowhy, the team would forgo the Dick Graves Relay in Bakersfield. This was bittersweet as seniors were looking forward to the annual event, but weren’t too disappointed as it had been a very busy week and time for rest was needed.
