TUHS Tennis Smashes Chavez

Taft High’s varsity boys tennis team shellacked the Cesar Chavez Titans, 9-0, Tuesday in a decidedly one-sided affair. In games it was 108-10.

Chavez did not field a JV team.

Varsity No. 1 Enrique Reyes shut out Fernando Munoz, 6-0, 6-0. In the closest match of the day, Sawyer Maier beat Lionel Agninaldo, 6-2, 6-2. Rodolfo Magana beat Felipe Alvarez, 6-0, 6-1. Tyler Nguyen was the first one off the court with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Christian Diaz. Likewise, Brian Rivera beat Xavier Cibrian, 6-0, 6-1. And, Jose Ramirez beat Christian Becerra, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Taft coach Jim Carnal sat his top two players. Magana and Nguyen beat Munoz and Diaz, 6-0, 6-1. Rivera and Ramirez blanked Alvarez and Ulises Calles, 6-0, 6-0. Chavez could not field the mandatory eight players so Bryson Ginn and Antonio Guzman picked up the forfeit win at three doubles.
