Nuncio Named MVP for South Sequoia League
The varsity girls soccer team brought home individual hardware after the votes came in from seven SSL coaches recently.
Izabella Nuncio was named the Most Valuable Player of the South Sequoia League, and did so in a dominant fashion. Each SSL coach listed his or her top-3 MVP candidates, and Izabella was the only player in the league listed on all seven ballots. She scored 15 goals in 12 SSL games, and easily led the league in scoring. Some of the comments about Bella’s abilities from other SSL coaches included: “Izabella has great strength and a wonderfully powerful kick. Her foot is like a loaded cannon ready to burst through the net like she did when she scored her 26 goals this season.” Also, “She is an incredible player. She has the skills and the drive of a great soccer player. There’s no question that she was the best forward/center-mid in the league. When she had the ball at her feet, there was no stopping her.” Another coach stated, “Izabella is an unstoppable player. She scored 15 league goals and helped Taft place second by only half a game.”
Other members of the team also secured their places as All-SSL players. By virtue of our 2nd place finish in league, we were allowed 3 first-team slots and two second-team slots.
1st team All-SSL:
Taylor Hale: Forward
Yadira Astorga Leon: Midfielder
Jordan Rouell: Defense
2nd team All-SSL:
Skylar Hale: Defense
Millie Reynoso: Midfielder
“The best part is that 4 of these 6 girls are returning next year. Please congratulate them when you see them around on a job well-done!” Coach Hickman exclaimed.
We are very happy and proud to announce these great accomplishments from the girls varsity soccer team. We look forward to another great year.
