JV Tennis Wins D2 in Griffin Tournament

The Taft High JV boys tennis team won Division II in the Griffin Cup Tournament Saturday at Frontier High School to remain undefeated for the season.

Jose Ramirez, Adrian Luna, James Clark, German Mejia and Martin Escobedo all went 3-0 to lead the team.

Taft, under first-year coach Leroy Day, beat Frontier A, 4-2, on Friday. On Saturday, the Wildcats swept Frontier B, 6-0, and then beat Golden Valley, 4-2.

Marvin Gama and Fernando Campos went 2-1; beginners Wilbur Ramirez-Tinoco and Elijah Gonzalez were 1-2.

The tourney format was three singles and three doubles playing eight-game pro sets.
