Last Tuesday night, the Wildcats played the Cesar Chavez Titans. The game was much anticipated as the Titans beat Taft last game at home. The game began with an intense energy as both teams felt as if they had something to prove. In the first quarter, both teams had a high shooting percentage. Neither team had pulled ahead nor made very great defensive stops. The Titans won the first quarter with a score of 11 to Taft’s 9. The second quarter followed in the footsteps of the first, as Chavez outscored Taft 18-15. The overall score of the game at halftime was 29-21 in favor of Cesar Chavez. The third and fourth quarters had a change of momentum in them as three-pointers and fastbreaks were abundant for Taft. Taft ended up outscoring the Titans by 7 in the third, and 8 in the fourth. Taft came back to win the game, 61-54 in favor of Taft. The Taft Wildcats were then 6-4 in league.

Last Thursday night, the Wildcats played the Arvin Bears in the final matchup between the two teams for the season. Last time the two teams played, Taft won comfortably, 68-52. The first two quarters of the game were played intensely by both Arvin and Taft, as each team played solid defense. Contrary to the outstanding defense, the Wildcats were lacking offensive progression as they shot under 25 percent. This game showed early signs of difference as Arvin out-scored Taft, 34-17 in the first half of the game. During the start of the third quarter, early layups from senior captains, Zach Tuila and Fano Maui, shifted the offensive momentum and gave Taft the confidence to come back into the game. Taft outscored Arvin 21-14 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the momentum had fully shifted in favor of Taft. Taft came back and beat the Bears 58-53. Taft is now 7-4 in league going into tonight’s Senior Night game.
