Last Monday night, the Wildcats had a divisional matchup against the Arvin Bears. The Wildcats had recently just lost to the Chavez Titans, so the Cats had extra determination to win this game. As the game began, an early lead was established over the Bears, as Zack Tuila scored the first seven points of the game. As the Arvin Bears came back down the court after the seventh point, Fano Maui put his “lockdown” defense on display, and stole the ball almost immediately after the point guard crossed the half court line. Getting the steal lead to an easy transition on the other side of the court with a layup from Zack Tuila. With this layup, the score of the game had risen to 9-0 in favor of the Wildcats. After this 9-0 lead, the Wildcats continued to extend their lead until the score was 44-14 at halftime. After halftime, the Wildcats did not let up as they outscored the Arvin Bears by more than double their points. The Wildcats picked up a great win on a Monday night, as the final score of the game was 71-59. The Wildcats were 3-2 in league after this game.

On Thursday, the 25th, Taft High played the R.F.K.Thunderbirds in another league conference game. Both the Wildcats and the Thunderbirds each came into the game with a 3-2 record. This game determined who would be in true second place in the S.S.L., since both teams had the same record. The Thunderbirds started their game off strongly, as they jumped to an early 12-2 lead over the Wildcats. However, the Wildcats were not going to stand around and just watch, as they battled back until the score was 16-14 still in favor of the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds ended up keeping the lead over the Wildcats and winning the first half 31-22. After the half, the Wildcats immediately started playing a better game as fast break layups, and defensive stops, were abundant. The Wildcats ended up outscoring the Thunderbirds in the third quarter 21-14. As fourth quarter started, the intensity of the game rose to a whole new level as both teams went point-for-point until the final score of the game was 60-58 in favor of the Wildcats. The Taft High Wildcats were then 4-2 overall in league.
