Last week, there were many ups and downs relating to both soccer teams at Taft Union High School. On the 22nd, the Wildcats’ opponents were from Bakersfield Christian High School. Although the varsity team lost 3-0, the team had great communication and synchronization throughout the game. It was a close call, but didn’t deter the players from having pride in showmanship. The J.V. team, coached by Roberto Gonzales, won 2-1. This achievement doesn’t surprise many on the team, due to the amount of games they’ve won this season.

On the 23rd of January, the teams traveled to Wasco in order to go up against Wasco High School. The varsity Wildcats unfortunately made 0 goals against the opponent, so they lost 0-6. On the other hand, the J.V. game resulted in a tie because both teams made 0 goals against each other. This is understandable, though, because both teams had very good defense and showed an optimal amount of teamwork.

Interestingly enough, last Thursday’s game was a home game, and both teams won. J.V. managed to make one goal at the end of the game, allowing them to win against the opponent’s 0 points. During the varsity game, Shafter’s team shockingly forfeited during the last three minutes.

Altogether, last week was an interesting time for the Wildcats. Out of the 3 total matches, the varsity won one of them, and the J.V. team prevailed with two wins and one tie.
