Girls Varsity Soccer Tournament Ends in 4th Place
On December 8th, 2017, the Taft Union Wildcat girls’ soccer team began their tournament with a win over Tehachapi, 5-1. At first, the game had begun very intense as senior captain, Taylor Hale, scored the first goal of the game. After Taft had the lead over Tehachapi, Taft remained reluctant to give it back up. Taft remained ahead of Tehachapi for the rest of the game. Taft was not finished just yet, however, the girls also had to play long time SSL rival, Shafter, the same day. This game did not mirror the first game, as Shafter put up a good fight. Shafter was on the attack first as the Generals scored the first goal of the game. Four minutes later, Taft rallied back as Izabella Nuncio scored her first goal of the game. The fight between Taft and Shafter stayed competitive as no other team scored for the rest of the whole game. The game ended up as a tie between Shafter and Taft, at 1-1.
The very next day, Taft faced yet another SSL rival as they played Bakersfield Christian High School. The game showed no signs of slowing down as Bakersfield Christian scored within the first two minutes of the game. After this goal, however, Taft played spectacular defense and did not allow Bakersfield Christian to score again. Taft then took over the offensive side as Taft’s very own, Nuncio, scored. Although this game was very competitive and entertaining to watch, there was not a winner as both teams only scored once. Taft tied Bakersfield Christian at a score of 1-1. Later on during the day, Taft ended up playing for the third place position against Golden Valley. Unfortunately, Taft fell short and lost 4-1. Taft ended up earning a very respectable, 4th place.
