Varsity soccer lost a tough game to Wasco on Tuesday. It’s still early in the season, but our boys have a 1-1 record so far in league. Senior Sergio Gonzalez scored in the first 10 minutes of the game and gave the team an early lead. The team managed to hold onto that lead through halftime. A little after halftime, Wasco got lucky and sent the ball across the front of Taft’s goal to a waiting player who headed the ball into the empty net. The game was tied and Taft stepped up on their defense against Wasco. Taft stayed playing tough even when Wasco started putting lots of pressure on them. Toward the last couple of minutes of the game Taft’s goalkeeper was called for a foul in the penalty area giving Wasco a free penalty kick. Wasco scored the goal and the score went up to 1-2. Varsity coach, Daniel Stewart commented, “We tried very hard to get the ball in the net trying to salvage a tie but we were unsuccessful”. He said,“ The boys played very hard and should commended for their efforts.” Even though the boys didn’t win the coach says, “Some days you win, some days you don’t.”
