Zughei Guzman prepares to race.

The Wildcat cross country team competed very well at the Apache Invitational in Arcadia, bringing home much hardware. Despite the absence of our best male runner, Chase Cortez, due to illness, the boys team placed third in the small-school division, narrowly missing out on 2nd place by a mere 9 points. All 5 scorers earned medals for the boy’s squad, with

Marvin Gama placing 13th , Adrian Luna in 23rd , Emmanuel Avila coming in 25th , Ivan Espinoza in 47th , and Omar Velasco placing 49th . All nine boys (including JV) ran their fastest times of the season, with our 6th runner, Pedro Saucedo, setting his personal best time of 20:39 by almost 3 minutes! Boy’s Small Schools Official Team Scores: first Rosemead 73, second North Torrance 129, third Taft Union 138.

On the girl’s side, the team consisting of Bella Nuncio, Hannah Covington and Zughei Guzman, also ran well, despite not having enough girls to score as a team. Again, all 3 girls set their best times of the season. Bella earned a medal in 10th place overall, with 22:56, Hannah was 32nd in 24:51, and Zughei placed 52nd , with a time of 27:24. The next meet for the Wildcats is the SSL Championship meet at Hart Park on November 9th.
