Water Polo Unable to Overcome Competitors
So far, October hasn’t been the best for Taft High’s Water Polo teams. Both teams have taken the continuous losses as learning experience, however, leaving them undeterred. These losses haven’t faded the team’s determination to achieve a win this year. On the 10th, the Wildcats went to play against the Grizzlies at their campus in Granite Hills. Unfortunately, Taft’s team only made three goals against the opponent’s sixteen. Two out of the three goals were made by Alex Toro, and the team had thirteen steals altogether.
The girl’s water polo team didn’t do so well against Granite Hills either. They lost, but were able to make nine goals against the Grizzlies’ fifteen points.
On October 12th, the Wildcats played a home game against Strathmore, and lost four to nineteen. Before the game, Nathan Usrey, the boy’s water polo coach, congratulated Jack Layton, Ryan Hickernell and Seth Taylor for their long-term dedication to the team. Jack Layton proudly claims that he is the only current team member who has played water polo for all four years of his high school career.
The girl’s team lost their game on this day as well, but Julie Heimiller successfully made three of the four goals won against Strathmore’s twenty-six points. Both games against Strathmore were fought hard in order to raise money for the team’s traveling and housing expenses as they travel across the coast playing against various teams this season.
The eighteenth of October, The Wildcat boys played against Sierra Pacific, and lost 3-25. Paul Pitts, Presley Golling and Alex Toro scored one goal each, and Kaleb Hillan made two steals.
The girl’s team also lost 15-16, but managed to keep up with the opponents up until the second quarter.
Hopefully, the rest the remaining games for this month will be in Taft’s favor. The team is now 0-10 in league play.
