The Wildcat Girls Golf Team wrapped up regular season play on Tuesday at Buena Vista Golf Course, placing second in the SSL Championship and taking second place overall as a team for the year.  It marked the end of the season for 11 of the 12 golfers on our team.  Team Captain Sierra Pilgrim shot 92 to move on to the CIF Central Section Southern Area Championship at Buena Vista on Tuesday, October 23rd.  The qualifying score to move on was 95, and after missing it by one stroke last season, with a 96, Pilgrim knew that she needed to perform under pressure to make the cut.  She did just that, hammering long, straight drives down the stretch, along with solid iron shots, while a nervy putter tried to betray her.  Her dedication and effort at practice paid off, and now she’s proven that she has the game to move on and compete at the next level.

The 2017 Girls Golf season was a spectacular success.  Every player saw competitive action, and all but one played in a league match.  The girls were all supportive of each other and showed a level of team cohesiveness that I’ve never seen previously.  Coach Charlotte Kidd and I enjoyed every day we spent with the girls and feel lucky to have been able to introduce them to the great game of golf.
We’re losing seniors Sierra Pilgrim and Daisy Rosales for next year, and both of them will be missed.  They’re both fantastic young ladies and have bright futures ahead, on and off the golf course.  We’re hoping to bring back ten returning players next year, and a few new faces, as we fight for an SSL Championship with the addition of McFarland to our league and the absence of BCHS, who will be leaving the SSL.  We’ll miss competing against the Eagles, who brought out the best in us and our games.
The Wildcats won two of the three medals awarded yesterday.  First place went to Madi Daniel from BCHS (80), second place went to Sierra Pilgrim (92), and third place went to Macayla Wells (104).
Additionally, three Wildcats earned All-League selections.  All-League status is determined by season-long stroke average over 6 of 8 league events.  First team All-League are the first through fifth lowest averages, and second team All-League are the sixth through tenth lowest averages.
First team All-League honors went to Sierra Pilgrim, who earned second place with a 90.2 stroke average, and Macayla Wells, who earned fourth place with a 107.7 stroke average.  Second team All-League honors went to Daisy Rosales who came in tenth place with a 120.2 stroke average.  This is out of 65 golfers who participated in SSL play this season.
