Financial Opportunity with Strings Attached
The regular board meeting for January was held on the 16th. The main topics of discussion for this were available extra funding, the A.S.B. report, and the Rotary club being billed a higher amount than previously quoted for use of the cafeteria. All members, other than Rick Twisselman, were present.
Taft High is able to receive an extra $369,432 of funding if they choose to apply for the Federal Grant opportunities presented by Interim Business Manager Joost DeMoes. This funding does come with strings attached. To receive this funding, Taft High would have to agree to Federal Compliance Monitoring. This is used to track the terms in which the dollars are being spent
All minutes for board meetings dated Nov. 13th through Jan. 3rd were approved. This puts all the information for these meetings on the BoardDocs website. Nothing from the consent agenda was pulled. All items in the agenda were approved. The audit report was also adopted by the board.
The Taft Rotary club was sent a higher bill when it should have been just $250. The Rotary club was billed for using Taft High for a fundraising event benefiting youth organizations in the community. Regarding the issue, Paul Linder said, “I believe the board had no intention of billing the Rotary club more than $250.” The Rotary club will only be billed $250 for the September fundraiser after action was taken.
Sarah Lopez gave the A.S.B. report to the board in place of Jacob Gonzales. Lopez gave a speech to the board about recent activities. She said, “We tried to get out of our comfort zone.” Lopez also added, “We have an A.S.B. retreat coming up,” which will be to Pismo Beach.
Based off of the information In this month’s board meeting, Taft High may be able to achieve greater financial security through funding opportunities, should they choose to pursue them immediately. The Rotary club will not be billed a higher than estimated amount, and A.S.B. has a retreat coming soon.
