Carlos Chavira

Cinnamon roll made in the Wildcat Cafe

This school year, Taft Union High School was fortunate enough to gain a new foods teacher, Carlos Chavira, to their faculty. Not only has he been an outstanding addition to the TUHS community, but he has also started his own catering company, staffed by students, named “Wildcat Cafe”. Every student in his Foods class participates in the catering, one way or another, from preparing the food, to going and catering for businesses and parties who hire them. “All of the funds collected from catering go directly to the culinary program,” stated Mr. Chavira, seemingly eager to improve the program controlled by him.

So far, they’ve catered for the Lincoln and Jefferson staff, and even the community prison’s faculty. Their menu consists of a variety of foods, including: tacos, cinnamon rolls, deli sandwiches, Italian dishes, and sushi. Every Wednesday, the class sells delicious cinnamon rolls to anybody on campus throughout the school day. To contact the Wildcat Cafe for catering, you can call Taft Union High School (661) 763-2300 and ask to speak to Mr. Chavira, who takes orders throughout the school day.
