Homecoming King and Queen Revealed
The winner of Taft High’s Homecoming King was announced during the Powderpuff game. Zachary Self is the son of Theresa and Hubbell Self and was escorted by his mom on Wednesday night. Zach has played football and basketball and participated in track for the past 3 years of his high school career. After high school, Zach plans on attending Northern Arizona University in hopes to continue to play football and major in kinesiology while pursuing his minor in business. He would like to thank his parents and his girlfriend for the endless support and motivation throughout everything he’s aspired to achieve. He is equally thankful to be the winner of the crown and plans on holding this memory close to his heart.
Homecoming Queen was announced on Friday, October 27th, between the JV and Varsity games at Taft High’s Martin Memorial Stadium. The members of the court were brought out in fancy cars and then walked to the float by their person of choice. Sarah Lopez was announced the winner and let tears full of honor and happiness fall as she hugged her fellow candidates and friends. Sarah thanked CSF club for her nomination as well as her classmates, teachers, coaches, teammates, and friends. Sarah thanked many family friends and family members for helping her through the journey of life and all the obstacles she’s overcome. Sarah sent out a special thank you to honor someone who is not able to be physically be here today, but who she says will live on forever in her heart. Sarah said, “July 20th, 2017, marked the worst day of my life; the day we lost Raegan Sorenson (and her mother, Raeleen) to a drunk driver. Raegan was about to be my Sister-In-Law, but she was so much more than that. Raegan was my amazing friend, my sister at heart, and a forever cherished treasure to my brother and to my entire family.” Lastly, Lopez sent her ultimate thank you to her savior, Jesus Christ and to her mom, Kelly Lopez; Sarah said, “My mom has been there with me and for me at every twist and turn in life. You are truly my best friend, and you exemplify the love of God.”
