An Aviation Opportunity

Cadet Staff Sgt. Jeremiah Mookie, India Flight guide of the 139th Cadet Training Squadron, leads his flight during pass in review at the graduation ceremony for 2017 California Wing Encampment, one of the largest Civil Air Patrol training events in the nation.

The Civil Air Patrol program is coming to Taft high as a club. Captain Wikoff from C.A.P. outlined the main idea saying, “Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force with three missions: emergency services, aerospace education, and a cadet program.” This program is for anyone between ages 12 to 18. There is also a strong emphasis on leadership, physical, and military orientation training. C.A.P. would operate after school at Taft High School, and will be in a club format.

Before the Civil Air Patrol can be held in Taft, some requirements need to be met. First, they need at least five cadets and three adults wanting to join. Second, they need a Senior Member. Wikoff commented on the saying,”This is a volunteer position which would require a commitment similar to that of a teacher or sports coach.” Wikoff also commented,”The Unit Commander is responsible for all operations of the unit and accordance with C.A.P. regulations.”

The involvement of a Senior Member is required for this program to function properly. If you are an adult and are interested in the program, your help can go a long way to help the Civil Air Patrol. Since the Taft Civil Air Patrol program is still in the approval process, you can visit the Bakersfield program at 1975 Airport Drive for additional information.
