Once every month, Mrs. Finn and students get together during lunch hour to discuss issues, concerns, or good things going on throughout Taft High. On August 13th, the topics that were discussed consisted of bullying prevention, Week of Welcome, Link Crew, and feelings the freshmen are having this year.

Students confirmed that there isn’t much of a bullying problem as much as there is a “slap-boxing” problem. Slap-boxing is a “game” played by kids that involves approaching a person and then slapping them. This game is creating a problem because kids are going home feeling alone and targeted, making them not want to return to school the next day. Being aware of this issue is the first step to abolishing it; Taft High’s goal is to be an everlasting family and to make it known that the students of this campus aren’t alone in anything they do.

This is also why Finn took time to discuss the feelings of the newest Wildcats, the freshmen. Link Crew dedicated their first week of school to plan a couple of days full of fun and bonding for the freshmen and they received many compliments in return. As Finn commented, “All around, Week of Welcome and Link Crew were a success. The students enjoyed getting to know new people and learn more about Taft High’s past.”

Go out and attend these meetings to stay updated on what’s happening on campus. Plus, there is pizza!
