It’s just not in the cards

This year will be Tim Greer’s last year teaching at Taft High. He has been at Taft High since Fall, 2007 and has taught: World Geography, Economics in Oil Tech, World History, Honors World History, AP U.S. History, Yearbook, and summer school for all the years he was here. Greer also coached JV girls’ tennis, JV girls’ soccer, varsity girls’ soccer, Track, Cross Country, and the Summer Speed and Strength program. He was involved in the Chess club and Gay Straight Alliance club. Greer was also the Technology Coordinator for the district for a few years.  This shows how much time Greer has dedicated to Taft High and its students.

Greer was inquired about what he enjoyed the most at TUHS, and he replied, “Working with students. I also run a tabletop gaming club in my classroom before school, during lunch, and after school.” Greer was asked what had been the most memorable moment he had at Taft High; he said, “The moment that was most memorable was when I won teacher of the year.” When asked about what he will be doing after he resigns from TUHS, Greer stated, “I will be going to a Jr. High school in Bakersfield, enjoying the summer, and trying to go pro in Magic.” Greer went on to talk about how the students have left a lasting impact: “I think they’ve made me more patient and sympathetic. They’ve made me more confident in my Magic ‘skillz’.”

Greer runs an unofficial tabletop gaming club in his classroom before school, after school, and during lunch where many students join him in a safe environment.  Typically, there are 25-30 students in Greer’s room during lunch, just playing games, eating, and socializing in a welcoming environment. Greer commented on the start of his club saying, “It started out with me doing Chess club, then some students came in with cards.  I went home, got into my closet, and brought my cards and started to enjoy playing with them. I felt it was the most inclusive club on campus.”

Greer has made many contributions to Taft High in his time here. He has helped students in many ways.
