Taft High Takes Over Kern County Fair
October 16, 2017
The Kern County Fair is now over and FFA students are both sad and relieved. Sad because the animals they spent so long putting hard work into are now gone, but relieved because the long 7am to 5pm days are over. The animals that were entered included: one goat, eight pigs, and six steer. Together, these animals made a total of $46,074.50.
Students Alex Cross, Hunter Rowden, and Andrew Parker participated in Pen of Steer together, taking 2nd place out of 7 groups. As for welding, several students have submitted projects and received an impressive amount of awards. This includes a bench made by Hunter Barton, who was awarded with best of show, best of division, and best overall large metal project. $230
along with hard work was invested into the project and it payed off when it was sold at auction for $450. Barton said, “I’ve always had a passion for building things and welding is one of my favorite ways of doing it.” Also submitted was, American Flag, by Andrew Parker. He was awarded with CEO (only 3 were given), committee’s choice, and best of class. The fair is always an exciting time of year and preparation for the next fair is already underway!
