Girls Golf Team Takes Another Win
September 14, 2017
The Girls Golf team pulled off another win last Thursday against the South High Rebels during a 9 hole tournament held at Buena Vista Golf Course. The 6 girls who qualified for this tournament were Sierra Pilgrim, Daisy Rosales, Macayla Wells, Isabella Martinez, Jaye Sparks, and Willow Pilgrim. The Wildcats finished with a total of 317, and the Rebels with a score of 355. Briley Wheeler, Skyla Jensen, and Chloe Dodson played behind the match from the 150-yard mark, in which they attained more knowledge of the greens.
On Saturday, the Girls Golf team played 18 challenging holes at the River Island Country Club in Springville. There were 4 girls who went to this tournament; Sierra Pilgrim, Macayla Wells, Jaye Sparks, and Daisy Rosales. The 4 girls were split into groups of 2: Sierra Pilgrim with Macayla Wells, and Jaye Sparks with Daisy Rosales. The format of this play was a two-girl best ball. “The golf course is full of danger on every shot, with forced carries over on many holes and out-of-bounds a possibility on every shot. It is very different than what our girls are accustomed to playing, and they handled the increased difficulty beautifully.” stated Coach Cowan.
Macayla Wells and Sierra Pilgrim shot 49-46 which is a total of 95, and they took 2nd place in this strenuous course. Daisy Rosales and Jaye Sparks shot a 66-68 ending with a total of 134, and finished strong by placing 8th. Cowan gleefully stated, “The highlight of the day was watching experienced Pilgrim lead and mentor newcomer Macayla Wells as they worked their way around the golf course.” All in all, the Wildcat Girls Golf team is off to a great start even with the setback of losing a week of practice due to the heat.
