Officer Miller addresses faculty and staff

Due to a change in contract language with the city of Taft, our school resource officer, Officer Miller, will no longer protect and serve our school district.

After meeting with the Taft City Manager and conducting discussions with legal counsel and SISC risk management, the district determined that entering into this contract would leave the district exposed.  During the District’s first staff meeting, Superintendent Blanca Cavazos credited Officer Miller with helping students and recognized him with a plaque.

During Miller’s emotional speech to the entire staff he said, “I’m sorry to say that it’s coming to an end…thank you.” He discussed the interactions with students calling them “above and beyond.”  He was applauded for his work with a standing ovation.

The District is looking for options and hiring a temporary Chief of Security until a permanent solution is found, possibly through the Kern County Sheriff’s Department.
