Girls varsity tennis makes their way to Valley

On Friday, November 1, and on Saturday, November 2, the South Area of the Central section Individuals were held at Garces High School.  The top six finishers in each of the four leagues qualified for the area tournament. In addition, three players from Desert, Rosamond, and Bishop also qualified.  This led to a 27 individual draw in both singles and doubles.

Taft’s Valerie Munoz was seeded eighth in singles, and Taft’s doubles team of Jessica DeLaCruz and Jeidy Perez were seeded eighth in doubles. Arelie Paz was unseeded in singles, and Cindy Perez and Gaby Agular were also unseeded in doubles.

 

TAFT’S RESULTS:

 

Valerie Munoz defeated Castro (South), 6-0, 6-0 – then lost to Brownfield (Highland) 0-6, 2-6

Arelie Paz defeated LeMasters (North), 6-0, 6-0 – then lost to Heibert (#2 seed BCHS) 0-6, 0-6

Jeidy Perez/Jessica DeLaCruz defeated Mata/Mamauag (Independence) in a forfeit – then lost to  A.Cisneros/S.Cisneros (South) 2-6, 4-6

Cindy Perez/Gaby Aguilar lost to A.Cisneros/S.Cisneros (South) 1-6, 4-6.

The top four singles players and the top four doubles teams qualified for the Valley Tournament on 11/8 and 11/9 at Garces.

 

Taft opens and the team plays the Central Section of Division IV with a match against Madera South at  3:00 pm in Taft on Tuesday. Taft is seeded #2 in Division IV and had a bye in the first round. Madera South is #7, and they beat Wasco #10, in the first round on 10/30.

 

If Taft wins on Tuesday, we will host a home match on Thursday with the winner of the Highland/Firebaugh match  The finals are on Tuesday, November 12.
